I swear, if I were substantially rich and somehow could get a Genie to grant me my one wish of being able to eat whatever I want without getting fat, I would be at Village Ice Cream everyday. To the point that they would have to escort me off the premises. Because I’d be all foaming at the mouth with ice cream happiness delirium and it would scare away customers. And children. Think of the children!
The Village Ice Cream shop has been open for only a couple of months, but it’s got some good buzz going. Owner Billy Friley used to sell his small-batch, artisanal creations to high-end restaurants in Calgary but has since opened up shop at what seems to be the very end of civilisation. No but really, it’s just tucked away near a cul-de-sac that is not very well traveled.
The seating area outside is the perfect spot to enjoy a scoop on a warm summer evening.
The interior is clean and modern, with the menu board being the highlight. They have 10 “mainstay” flavours along with a couple of seasonal ones that rotate regularly, and a sorbet offering. The flavours are very similar to what Molly Moon’s in Seattle offers. I was very intrigued by the Oaxacan Chili Chocolate, but the first time we went they were all sold out. SAD FACE EXTREME :(
So I went with Salted Caramel and it did not disappoint. It tastes very similar to the version at Molly Moon’s, but I found it to be slightly creamier. Man I love salted caramel ice cream. It’s a huge flavour punch of salty, sweet, and creamy. And basically at first taste I fell in love (sorry Mark lol).
Mark’s pick was the Toasted Coconut. This was also very delicious with a beautiful toasted coconut flavour that wasn’t too heavy.
And so my obsession began…
We went back a couple of days later to pick up a pint of their new seasonal flavour, London Fog (amazing Earl Grey tea flavour) and picked up a scoop of Oaxacan Chili Chocolate, which was the perfect combination of rich silky chocolate ice cream with a hint of cinnamon and nice spicy kick.
And then I had to go back when they started selling ice cream sandwiches. Because who can say no to an ice cream sandwich? I CERTAINLY CANNOT, but most importantly I just simply WILL NOT SAY NO.
And I mustn’t forget the time we went with Mark’s parents after a family dinner and saw this little guy munching on remnants of a waffle cone.
At $5 a scoop, it’s not the cheapest ice cream around and the better value is picking up a pint for $9. But for me it’s definitely worth it. I’m so glad Village Ice Cream exists. It’s seriously my ice cream dream come true.

Oooh I’ve heard so much about Jeni’s. All the flavours look amazing and are so unique. I would consider going to Columbus just to have the ice cream (and that new Korean food truck)!
