seattle eats: agua verde cafe & paddle club

**Jason’s Epic Food Tour – Stop 5 of 6**

When we first passed by Agua Verde Cafe & Paddle Club, I was confused.  This is a restaurant?  I didn’t quite catch the “Cafe” part of the sign, which might’ve explained it, but it all started to make sense once we got inside.

As the name explains, Agua Verde doubles as a Paddle Club and a Cafe.  They offer hourly kayak rentals and guided tours.  Afterwards, you can grab a bite at the Cafe, where they offer Baja-inspired cuisine.  Jason raved about their homemade salsas and we both love Mexican food, so naturally we were excited to see what type of offerings Agua Verde had for us to enjoy.

The interior is quite lively and colourful, but we opted to sit in the covered patio section overlooking the ocean (the view was obscured by clouds and the continuing rain, however).

The menu is quite extensive so we ordered what Jason recommended – the Bacalao Tacos de la Casa (fried cod in a coconut beer tempura with shredded cabbage and creamy avocado sauce) – 3 open-faced tacos served with organic chips and house-made salsas.  The fish was fried to crispy goodness, which contrasted well with the moist and tender texture inside.  I liked that the raw crunch and slight bitterness of the shredded cabbage complemented the creaminess and sweetness of the avocado sauce.  All wrapped up in a soft corn tortilla, it was a winning combination.  The accompanying chips were crisp and nicely seasoned.  We opted for their Chipotle salsa (chipotle chile, tomatillo, cilantro and onion) which had a nice kick to it.

I would’ve liked to have some extra room in my stomach to try some of their other taco varieties (the Carnitas BBQ tacos sounded amazing).  It’s a nice, casual place to kick back and enjoy delicious eats, and maybe get in some kayaking to burn off some calories afterwards.
